The Society was formed in 1995 and was incorporated in 1996.
The Purposes of the Society:
- To preserve and enhance the history and culture of the village of Allen and its environs.
- To provide educational opportunities for residents and non-residents regarding life in the village of Allen across the centuries.
We seek to accomplish these purposes:
- By maintaining an archive for documents pertaining to local families and institutions, including genealogical records, family histories, letters, diaries, church records, etc..
- By publishing a newsletter, The Allen Historian, at least two times per year and distributing it not only to the membership, but also to all libraries and organizations with a historical or genealogical focus in the three lower counties of the Eastern Shore, which once made up Old Somerset County.
- By supporting publication of books of local, historical and cultural interest.
- By sponsoring lectures, workshops and other public events of an educational nature.
- By placing historical markers at significant sites within the village and the surrounding area.
- By maintaining a museum with exhibits about Allen and its history,
- By maintaining a web page
